In the following graphs, TXU’s emission rates for sulfur dioxide (SO2 ), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2 ) are compared with those of other owners of electric generating facilities in the United States. The comparisons come from data in an independent report, “Benchmarking Air Emissions of the 100 Largest Electric Generation Owners in the U.S. – 2000,” prepared by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES) and the Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG). The data are from 2000 and are derived primarily from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s emissions reporting program, which collects hourly emissions data from over 900 power plants based on Continuous Emissions Monitors. Information about power plant generation is derived from data reported to the Energy Information Administration. The emission comparisons presented here are made for fossil generating sources only so that zero– or low-emitting sources, such as nuclear or renewable energy generating facilities, do not influence the comparisons. The entire report can be found on the Internet at www.ceres.org.

TXU is the 8th largest electric generator but cleaner than most.
