ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS
TXU Australia's certified Environmental Management System and
performance record is a testament to the company's environmental
commitment. During 2002, all TXU Australia operations not
previously certified were successful in obtaining ISO 14001
certification. TXU Networks underwent a triennial re-certification
audit and again satisfied the requirements for ISO 14001 certification.
Torrens Island Power Station and the Gas Storage facility were
successful in obtaining ISO 14001 certification.
GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
During 2002, TXU Australia continued a number of programs to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The number of conversions
of vehicles from petrol or diesel operation to compressed natural
gas operation under the TXU Natural Gas for Vehicles program
increased from 366 in 2001 to 501 in 2002, with TXU installing
five new refueling stations on customer premises.

TXU is also actively involved in assisting customers with
energy efficiency programs. Through these initiatives,
customers have not only helped to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions but in most cases have achieved reductions in
costs, resulting in a benefit for all.
WIND POWER
During 2002, TXU Australia committed to long-term wind power
contracts that will increase TXU's portfolio of renewable
energy in Australia to 490 gigawatt-hours (490,000 megawatt-hours)
each year. That's enough energy to power more than 87,000
homes and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 510,000 tons
each year. TXU's moves into renewable energy further underline
its commitment to the Australian energy market and
environmental sustainability. Building a solid base in
greenhouse-friendly energy allows us to explore the growing
renewables market and respond to the environmental concerns
of the community.
