BUSHFIRE MITIGATION
In anticipation of a bushfire season expected to be one
of the most severe in history, TXU Australia renewed
its efforts to achieve the goal of reducing the likelihood
of electrical faults that can cause bushfires. The company
launched a new public awareness campaign aimed at ensuring
that residents understand the risk of bushfires from trees
and branches touching power lines - and how to minimize them.
PUBLIC REPORTING
In accordance with the reporting requirement under the New
South Wales retail license, TXU reported that 244,361
tons of CO2 was emitted as a result of TXU electricity
sales in New South Wales for 2001-2002.
STAKEHOLDER DIALOGUE
The TXU Gas Storage Environmental Review Committee (ERC)
consists of community and regulatory stakeholders and
representatives who have an interest in the gas storage
project and is chaired by a member of the Corangamite Shire
Council. The ERC met quarterly throughout 2002. During the
year, the committee was instrumental in resolving community
and environmental issues associated with the facility.
