RENEWABLE ENERGY LEADERSHIP
As the largest purchaser of renewable energy in Texas, TXU currently purchases wind energy from 440 of Texas’ 1,000-plus wind turbines as well as from landfill gas operations. This is enough energy capacity to power more than 81,000 Texas homes for an entire year.

Actual company purchases from renewable sources currently total more than 385 megawatts (MW) out of the state’s current renewable capacity of 1,100 MW. The company also expects to add new sources of wind generation in the future.

INCREASING USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
TXU began researching and using renewable energy long before any state mandate. Over the past five years, our use of renewable energy has significantly increased. Today, we purchase over two times more renewable energy than is mandated by the state.

PURCHASING WIND ENERGY
As part of a diverse fuel mix, TXU enters into long-term (ten years or more) purchase contracts with renewable energy companies – before wind farms are ever built. These signed contracts enable these companies to obtain construction financing to actually build the wind turbines. We are proud to be a major part of helping increase renewable capacity in Texas.

PROVIDING “AIR SUPPORT” TO U.S. AIR FORCE BASE
TXU is proud to be a partner in the largest consumer renewable energy purchase in United States history. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a recent contract between the company and Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, is the largest ever.

The contract for the base to purchase 100 percent of its energy needs from renewable energy came about as a result of our commitment to fuel diversity – including renewable energy
